Best of Texas 2002 Winner

The University of Texas System and Texas A&M University's statewide collaborative network was one of nine Texas state government information technology projects that received a "Best of Texas" award in 2002.

U.T. System and Texas A&M share bandwidth and Internet connectivity across the State. Because these two "rivals" cooperate and share telecommunications and network infrastructure, each is able to improve service and save money.

The Texas awards are the first of a "Best of" series from the Center for Digital Government and Government Technology magazine. The program was established to salute state government IT professionals for their dedication, hard work and contributions to better, more responsive and transparent government.

The nine winning projects were selected from more than 30 entries based on collaboration within or across jurisdictional boundaries to improve service to citizens, the public or state employees.

The winning projects were:

  • Texas Department of Health, Texas Health Alert Network
  • Texas Education Agency, Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) EDIT+
  • Texas Department of Information Resources, TexasOnline
  • Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services, Childcare Licensing Automation Support System
  • City of San Antonio, GIS Model for Land Acquisition
  • Texas Railroad Commission, Electronic Compliance and Approval Process
  • City of Dallas, Voice over Internet Protocol
  • GAATN - Greater Austin Area Telecommunications Network
  • The University of Texas and Texas A&M University Statewide collaborative network
