U.T. System Video Network Scheduling Procedures

 
     
 

The following procedure was established by Chancellor William H. Cunningham in a memorandum to the Chief Administrative Officers of each of the UT System Component Institutions on June 8, 1994. Please follow this procedure when requesting time on the video network.

Compressed Video Class Scheduling Procedure

 

 

 

    As more people teach courses via interactive compressed video, the demand for network access will require a more formal scheduling/allocation plan. I have assigned Associate Vice Chancellor Mario Gonzalez to work with the University of Texas System Office of Telecommunication Services in implementing new scheduling/allocation procedures.

    The following process will be used to schedule all classes which use The University of Texas System Interactive Compressed Digital Television Network and associated classrooms:

  1. Requests submitted prior to the following dates will be considered simultaneously. Requests submitted after the following dates will be scheduled on a space/capacity-available basis.

    Fall Semester:

    Requests submitted prior to the previous February 1.

    Spring Semester: Requests submitted prior to the previous June 1.
    Summer Term: Requests submitted prior to the previous December 15.

     
  2. If possible, requests should include a minimum of three alternative times and a statement of priorities. Requests should be submitted to:

    This will increase flexibility when conflicts are identified.

  3. Schedule commitments will be announced approximately 30 days following the specified deadlines. This time will be used to resolve conflicts.

  4. Priority will be given to courses which are parts of approved cooperative degree programs and other special commitments. Irreconcilable scheduling conflicts involving course delivery from a single institution will be referred to the President of that institution. Irreconcilable scheduling conflicts involving course deliveries from two general academic institutions or two health institutions will be referred to the appropriate Executive Vice Chancellor. Any irreconcilable scheduling conflicts between a health institution and a general academic institution will be referred to the Chancellor. No referrals will be made without first seeking additional alternative time slots from the institutions involved.

  5. To facilitate advance planning for adequate telecommunication capacity and to assist in the development of stable predictable schedules, component institutions will provide long-term plans for delivery of courses via interactive compressed digital television. To facilitate planning by departments and schools, tentative schedules will be published based upon planned utilization. However, those schedules will be subject to change for each term following the procedures outlined above.
